Detective Kendall Halsrud returns in Iced Malice, another stay-up-all-night suspense thriller by the author of Relative Malice.
In the midst of the worst winter in Eau Claire, Wisconsin since 1890, Detective Kendall Halsrud is investigating a case involving two murdered teenagers. Kendall soon realizes the teens’ murders appear eerily similar to the Fiancé Murder case from twelve years ago when three couples disappeared. A serial killer was suspected at the time but the bodies were never found.
Has the faceless killer returned, or does someone else have his own reason for killing couples?

Iced Malice Detective Kendall Halsrud Series Book 2 edition by Marla Madison Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
While the book itself was well-written as far as mechanics go, and the story's plot was a bit interesting, I found myself having to skim over endless pages in which the protaganist, Kendall, is mooning over her lost lover. I realize that this is the second book in a series, and that her affair with this man must have begun in Book 1. I had not read Book 1. If I had, I would not have read Iced Malice. When I choose a detective novel or a police procedural I do so because I'm interested in seeing how the clues are developed to catch the perpetrator. I don't want to read about someone's love life. If I did, I'd search for romance novels. I know that sometimes putting a bit of a romance in a story is a way for an author to further develop some of the character's personalities. However, many authors do this exceptionally well without including the element of romance. Some people who read this book will not be bothered about this, and that's their perogative.
The story itself flows smoothly, and has a few interesting developments, but it was not a "grab-you-by-the-seat-of-your-pants" read. I am sure that many people will have enjoyed this more than I did. Without spoiling the ending, I will say that certain things occur which indicate that Kendall will get her man Nash back in book 3 of this series, so I won't be reading that one!
I didn't find typos or any really offensive words or disgusting murders being carried out in which the reader has to digest a person being mutilated and murdered in the most awful way. Murders, yes... but the reader has to deal with most of them after the fact.
Only one complaint about the writing. Most people reading this review will find it picayune, but I think that authors should have good grammar. There is one sentence which reads, "They're all older than her." It should be "she." "They're all older than she." I guess I'm of the generation which had grammar pounded into our heads in school.
If you get all cosy and warm-feeling reading about a lovelorn woman pining for her man, along with a fairly good mystery and an actually well-written book, then you will enjoy this.

Iced Malice Detective Kendall Halsrud Series Book 2 edition by Marla Madison Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Written apparently without editing. Pretty loose throughout. Unusual story premise and definite surprise ending. But it seemed the author took for granted that you had read the other book in this series as references were made but not explained a number of times and could only have been tied to an early story.
Marla Madison has done it again. This story grabs you from page one and holds on tight until the very end! Start this novel when you have plenty of time for reading because you will NOT want to put it down. Her characters are so believable, lovable and downright kick a$$ tough! Start with Relative Malice to take the journey Madison so cleverly plots out for her readers become addicted to. You will become an immediate fan. Those of us who already are will start book 3 of this series and spend another sleepless night with Kendall and friends. Sincere thanks to Marla Madison for this spellbinding series.
...She had wanted to come along, and there were no guarantees when you rode with a detective." Plenty of twists and turns that kept my interest and I liked the way the characters interacted as mystery was gradually unraveled. First time I read this author but will make it a point to not be my last. Good suspense book!
I read a lot, many different authors, Patterson, Clancy, Evanovich, to name a few. I would have to say Marla Madison will be on my list.
Iced Malice is one of the best e-books that I have read this year (2016). Once Ibegan reading I couldn't put it down. The story was ell thought out, balanced and focused. I hope to read more by this author.
A long and somewhat confusing read. I confess to only reading 68% before giving up on it. As an ICU nurse for over 34 years, the medical inaccuracies had me steaming mad! Doctors and hospital staff not allowing visitors (that's NEVER done unless we're talking attempted murder or something), screening and forbidding certain visitors because of trauma induced amnesia, etc.... not to mention how ridiculous the whole amnesia angle was to begin with! No, I can't recommended this one. It was rather painful.
For the amount of things going on in this book, there was no sense of tension at all. The story lines go all over the place, adding more chaos than depth. It would be a better book if the author focused on one or two main stories and developed them thoroughly. Instead there is so much going on that you don't have time to get invested in any of them. It is an easy read and might be good for those times when you want something that doesn't require much concentration. Bottom line, I would not recommend the book to anyone, nor will I be buying any more in the series.
